Project 2008-2009 "The Social Observatory of the Postal Sector" Print E-mail
  • The Postal Sector Evolution working group is currently working on a project for 2009/2010 called: Social Observatory of the Postal Sector Evolution. It presents case studies in nine participating countries, among which new Member States, and aims at observing in details HR preparation in view of current evolutions on the postal sector.
  • During the first stage of the project there has been an analysis of previous work on the issue as well as interviews conducted in the nine participating countries.
  • During the second stage, workshops were organized to stimulate the debate on the collected data. They give the participants, the opportunity to present and share their strategies and experiences.
    •  A first workshop was held in Brussels on April 28th 2009 wtih France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
    • A second workshop was held in Budapest on June 5th 2009 with Italy, Portugal and Hungary.
    • The third workshop was held  in Riga on June 30th with Germany, Sweden and Latvia.
  • The Final Conference of the Social Observatory of the Postal Sector was held on October 22nd in Bussels. This conference brought together 90 participants among which representatives of the Commission, European experts and social partners from 17 countries.

                                                

  • This conference presented the main outcomes of the project:
    • A presentation of the Social Observatory project made by Anne Peeters (European Social Observatory)
    • The SDC presentation made by Dominique Bailly (Chair of the SDC) and John Baldwin (Vice-Chair of the SDC)

                 

                   

                    

  • Round table with Guido Schwarz (DG EMPL), Botond Szebeby (Posteurop), Neil Anderson (UNI) and Guy Van Gyes (Leuwen University)

                       

    • 3rd session: The role of social dialogue in the transformation of the sector
  • Round table with Jean-Paul Tricart (DG EMPL), Dominique Bailly, John Baldwin, Peter Wortmann (DP DHL), Pedro Ramalhete (CTT Correios de Portugal), Katja Heikkila (Finnish Post and logistics Union) and Montserrat Mir (CC.OO Postal Sector, Spain).

                          

  • Follow-up to the conference:
    • At the end of the project, a final report will be published and distributed to the postal operators and trade unions of the 27 member states as well as to the relevant stakeholders of the sector.
